Well at least I think it is interesting. I recently had a BIG oak tree cut down because it was growing where I wanted to build my house. I hated to do it but as they say, once its gone you never miss it. Anyway, the plan was to cut it up, split it, and stack it for fire wood. The only problem is, the entire tree is curly. It is a lot harder splitting curly wood and I don't think I can bring myself to burn curly wood anyway, even if it is Oak. I thought about taking it to the sawmill but I can't really get any machinery to it because it is himmed in by the geography of the lot and the new house. I am open to suggestions. I could go ahead and cut it up and buy some wedges and split it for firewood. I could try something creative. Right now I am considering slabbing it with a chainsaw but what a chore that would be. |

John I would check around to see if any one has a portable saw mill like one of those Wood Mizers. I had a local guy do that with some walnut trees on his property. They came right to the sight and sliced the trees into planks. Does a beautiful job. I would also hate to see curly oak used for firewood. PS I didn't forget your pic's. I will try to get them up today. |

That makes perfect sense. Bring the sawmill to the log. I knew I had come to the right place. Show me some pics! |
